Daniela Castro is a Colombian political scientist and investigative journalist based in Bogotá. She joined the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) in 2017 as a reporter and then served as its South America editor until March 2025, coordinating investigations alongside journalists from the region. In 2016, she interned at OCCRP while pursuing a master's degree in journalism at CUNY's Craig Newmark School, with an emphasis on international and investigative journalism. Previously, she worked at InSight Crime as a reporter and editor for the Spanish-language site, covering organized crime in Latin America and the Caribbean. She has participated in significant cross-border investigations, such as the FinCEN Files and NarcoFiles, the latter considered the largest journalistic project on organized crime in Latin America. Along with Colombian and Ecuadorian colleagues, she also investigated the kidnapping and murder of three Ecuadorian journalists in Colombia, a story nominated for the Gabo Prize and published in the book "Journey of No Return." In 2023, she was recognized as one of the most transformative women under 45 in Colombia for her contributions to journalism.
